Mike Evans' Pro Bowl nod feeds Harry Potter habit

ORLANDO, Fla. -- Count Tampa Bay Buccaneers wide receiver Mike Evans among those who are glad the Pro Bowl is in Orlando this year and not Hawaii. It's not just because he can avoid a long flight, but because he gets to feed his not-so-secret obsession: Harry Potter.

"I'm a big Harry Potter guy," said Evans, who is playing in his first Pro Bowl. "My second-grade teacher, Ms. Jones, read us the book, and then the movie came out like a month after she read it to us, and after that, I just fell in love with it."

Orlando is home to The Wizarding World of Harry Potter, with Harry Potter attractions at both Universal Studios and Universal's Islands of Adventure. There's also the event "A Celebration of Harry Potter" taking place through Sunday.

Evans will be taking his 4-year-old daughter, Mackenzie, while he's visiting.

But she's not hooked on Hogwarts just yet.

"She likes 'Frozen' and 'Sofia the First,' but I'm gonna get her into Harry Potter," Evans said smiling. "The NFL is hooking us up with VIP tours and everything. I'm gonna take full advantage."

As far as being 23 and a fan of a series adored by so many children, Evans doesn't care. He and his wife, Ashli, already visited Harry Potter at Universal this summer. And the groom's cake at his wedding was Harry Potter themed, with each layer representing a different house of Hogwarts and the top featuring Harry's pet owl. It also had his glasses and a Golden Snitch.

"I grew up on it as a kid so I'm not gonna change for nobody," said Evans. "I just enjoy it. I enjoy the storyline. I like the magic. It's a great movie, a great series and a great book series, as well."
