No throwbacks for Bucs this season

TAMPA, Fla. – The Tampa Bay Buccaneers won’t be wearing their throwback uniforms Sept. 29 against the Arizona Cardinals after all.

The team just announced the “creamsicle’’ colors will be kept on the shelf due to new NFL regulations and the team will wear its standard pewter, red and white uniforms. The team said it is complying with a league policy that restricts the use of alternate player helmets. The league now requires players to use the same helmet for all games after a recommendation by the NFL’s Head, Neck and Spine Committee and the Player Safety Advisory Panel.

“While we regret that our players will not be able to don the ‘Bucco Bruce’ helmet and traditional orange, red and white uniforms, there simply was no acceptable way to meet the requirements of the new policy while staying true to the spirit of our throwback theme,’’ chief operating officer Brian Ford said. “We will continue to explore options with the league office for bringing back this fan favorite in future seasons.”
