Chris Mannix at SI.com says that a few weeks into his tenure as GM in Cleveland, the jury is still out on Danny Ferry. Brining back Zydrunas Ilgauskas and singing Larry Hughes were big, but were they enough to get LeBron James to re-sign when he's eligible to become a free agent?
That's the big question. According to Jonathan Givony at DraftExpress, LeBron James was watching the summer league Knicks in Las Vegas at least in part to scout potential new teammates.
Is there any chance the Knicks will have cap room enough to tempt James? It's hard to imagine.
(On the same page, Givony also echoes a lot of people's sentiment when he says this about the Pistons top draft pick Jason Maxiell: "Maxiell is a freaking beast and he just can't be contained.")
I'll say this for Danny Ferry--so far this summer, every big name free agent has either stayed home (Michael Redd, Ray Allen, Zydrunas Ilgauskas) and/or gone to Cleveland (Larry Hughes). Not bad for a guy new on the job running a mediocre team.
