It's all over the web--that's what I get for going to a meeting--but Michael Finley has reportedly decided to sign with the world champion San Antonio Spurs. The story is that Finley just felt more comfortable in San Antonio.
In a weird way, this is a gamble. Because the team now has a lot of guards. They have five who actually deserve playing time: Brent Barry, Manu Ginobili, Nick Van Exel, Tony Parker, and Beno Udrih--to go with decent free agents in Devin Brown (who has brilliant moments) and Mike Wilks (who isn't the worst). So they will lose Devin Brown, after adding Van Exel, making their backcourt probably better, but much older, more injury prone, and a little slower. Frankly, I think it's fair to expect both Finley and Van Exel to miss significant games.
I'm happy for him, though. He's a solid guy and I hope they get him a ring.
