The Redskins signed seven players to reserve/future contracts Tuesday, including four players who ended the season on their practice squad. The moves were posted on the NFL’s transactions report.
The Redskins signed running back Davin Meggett, tight end Gabe Miller, center Tevita Stevens and cornerback Peyton Thompson, all of whom were on the practice squad. They also signed punter Robert Malone, cornerback Ryan Mouton and tight end Richard Quinn.
The Redskins cut Mouton last summer. Quinn played one game with Washington in 2011 and did not play for anyone this past season. He has one career catch since entering the NFL in 2009.
Malone has punted in 31 NFL games since entering the league in 2010. In two games with the New York Jets this season, he averaged 46.3 yards. He has a career average of 44.5 yards, but the problem has been that opposing returners have averaged 11.8 yards on his 157 career kicks.
He did have a long of 84 yards with the Jets this season. He spent all of 2012 with the Jets, averaging 45.8 yards but with a net of only 38.5.
The contracts take effect March 11 when rosters increase to 90.
