Red Sox 5, Reds 4: Powered by Rafael Devers and steadied by David Price, the Red Sox came from behind to win the opener of a three-game interleague series at Great American Ballpark. Devers snapped a homerless drought of 116 plate appearances with a three-run shot in the fourth inning. Price tossed 2-2/3 innings of scoreless relief of Rick Porcello. It marked Price's second appearance since coming off the disabled list and being moved to the bullpen.

In his second relief appearance, David Price threw 40 pitches in 2-2/3 scoreless innings to hold a 5-4 lead. Once again, Price showed good power, touching 95 mph on his final pitch of the night. He gave up three hits and one walk and struck out four batters, including the side in the sixth inning. Overall, Price has now thrown five scoreless innings out of the Red Sox's bullpen.

Tough to say what was more surprising: David Price batting for himself in the seventh inning, or David Price blooping a base hit into left field. Enormous smile on Price's face after reaching base. Haven't seen it much this season.

Rafael Devers hits his first homer since Aug. 19, a three-run shot that gives Red Sox a 5-4 lead. Devers has gone 116 plate appearances without a homer after hitting eight in his first 84 big-league plate appearances.

The Lions are known for their QB and passing game. Their defense is probably underrated. Detroit has held opponents to 20 or fewer points 11 times since the start of last season. That is tied for second in the NFL behind only the New England Patriots (12).

The Patriots had the following players in for free-agent workouts: WR Corey "Philly" Brown, DT Stefan Charles, DE Lamar Houston, QB Taylor Heinicke (signing to practice squad), WR Tavares King and WR Riley McCarron (signed to practice squad).

Patriots rookie LB/DE Harvey Langi was fined $9,115 for unnecessary roughness (face mask on special teams) in Sunday's win over the Saints. It was his first NFL play.

Andrew Benintendi, native of suburban Cincinnati, will have sizable rooting contingent here. "I don't know anyone who's not coming," the Red Sox left fielder said, uncertain of an exact number. Benintendi was honored at his old school in Madeira, Ohio, which had the fourth-grade chorus sing "Take Me Out To The Ballgame" and "Sweet Caroline."

The Patriots are signing quarterback Taylor Heinicke to their practice squad, per a source. Heinicke, of Old Dominion, entered the NFL as an undrafted free agent with the Vikings in 2015. In New England, he adds a third layer of depth at quarterback, as the Patriots only have two players at the position in Tom Brady and Jimmy Garoppolo.

Reds reliever Luke Farrell, son of Red Sox manager John Farrell, might get to face his dad's team here this weekend. Luke, who wears his father's No. 52, and John had breakfast today and walked to the ballpark together. "I don't know how many times this has happened in the history of baseball," Luke said. "It's a pretty cool experience."

ESPN Stats & Info

Pats heavily favored at home

The Texans haven't beaten the Patriots in nearly a decade, and ESPN's FPI doesn't see much changing in Sunday's meeting, giving New England the highest percentage chance to win out of any Week 3 matchup.
