One of Jon Lester's biggest motivations for signing with Cubs was his envy of 2004 Red Sox. Now he's 4 wins away. "I didn't get to be part of it in '04," Lester told me after his introductory press conference in December 2014. "You look at Dave Roberts. He stole one base and the guy's a legend. To see that and to see how it changed the organization, changed the town, just the idea of coming here and breaking their (curse), that was one of the reasons that led us here."

ESPN Stats and Information

Syracuse's Eric Dungey had a career-high 434 pass yards in today's win over Boston College, the second-most in school history (behind the 482 by Ryan Nassib against Northwestern in 2012). The 434 yards were the most by any player against BC since Florida State's EJ Manuel had 439 in 2012.

Syracuse has won back to back ACC games for the first time since 2013, as the Orange follow their upset of Virginia Tech by beating former Big East rival Boston College 28-20. Eric Dungey had a strong line -- 32-38 passing for 434 yards and 3 TDs, to go with 54 rushing yards -- but turned the ball over twice. Still, Amba Etta-Tawo caught 10 passes for 144 yards and a TD, giving him 6 100-yard receiving outings in 8 games this year. The Maryland graduate transfer is now 5th in school history for career 100-yard games. The Orange are 2-2 in league play heading into their bye. BC, meanwhile, remains winless in ACC play since 2014 and will head to NC State next week.

Steve Ishmael makes a heck of an 11-yard TD catch to give Syracuse a 21-10 lead just before the fourth quarter. Ishmael now has 8 catches for 108 yards, while Eric Dungey has his 6th 300-yard passing game of the season, which is tied for the most in the FBS and tied with Ryan Nassib for the school single-season record. Dungey has completed 29 of 33 passes on the day.

Boston Celtics forward Kelly Olynyk was cleared for contract drills this week and engaged in 5-on-5 action during practice on Saturday. Olynyk remains hesitant to offer a timeline for returning to game action. "When the time comes it will come. You don't want to force it, you don't want to push anything and go backwards at all. … For me, it's all about when you're comfortable and when you feel like you're ready, then we'll be back."

BC turns ball over in bizarre fashion

It would have been first-and-goal inside the 5-yard line for the Eagles, but an odd play resulted in Syracuse getting the ball back with a 14-10 lead.
