At his Foundation To Be Named Later charity event today, Theo Epstein laughed off a recent suggestion by political strategist David Axelrod that he could get into politics, calling such a thing "ridiculous." I think I need to go do something really ill-advised or commit a felony or something," Epstein said. "I can put a stop to it in a hurry."

Pedro Martinez: "If I was pitching, I was going to drill Machado, as much as I love him. The only thing I would've done differently is probably bring the ball a little bit lower." All three of the Patriots' AFC East foes went with defense in Thursday night's first round, as the Jets took LSU safety Jamal Adams at No. 6; the Dolphins selected Missouri defensive end Charles Harris at No. 22; and Bills traded down and picked LSU cornerback Tre'Davious White at No. 27. That seems like a solid first day for the rest of the division, which knows it has to stop the lethal Tom Brady-led Patriots offense. As for New England, the March trade of the No. 32 overall pick for wide receiver Brandin Cooks gives them a dynamic, speedy threat on offense that wouldn't have otherwise been available to them at that position in the draft.
