In his stunning no-hitter against the Red Sox, Oakland left-hander Sean Manaea joined some pretty exclusive company. The only Athletics pitchers with 10+ strikeouts in a no-hitter: Catfish Hunter, Dave Stewart and, now, Sean Manaea.

Sean Manaea? Sean Manaea! The first no-hitter of the 2018 season has come from a very unexpected place as the A's lefty outdueled Chris Sale and shut down the best team in the majors for Oakland's first no-hitter since Dallas Braden's 2010 perfect game.

A no-hit bid with Chris Sale on the mound is always a possibility — but tonight in Oakland, it's been the other guy on the mound putting up zeroes as Sean Manaea has held the Red Sox hitless through 8 innings. How surprising is this no-hit bid? Well, the Oakland lefty was just one-year-old last time Boston was no-hit, in 1993.

Oakland A's starter Sean Manaea is deep in a very unexpected no-hit bid against the Red Sox. If he can get the final 3 outs, it will be Oakland's first no-hitter since Dallas Braden's perfect game in May of 2010. Boston hasn't been no-hit since 1993.

Celtics coach Brad Stevens said Marcus Smart's thumb will be reevaluated next week and Smart could be cleared to return to all basketball activities at that point. Said Stevens: "I think once he's cleared to do a full-contact practice, he's cleared to play.” Stevens said Smart is doing everything but live action at the moment while rehabbing.
