Rex Ryan anticipates the Patriots to take advantage of their uncertain quarterback situation. "I expect [the Patriots] immediately to tell us [who the starting quarterback will be]," Ryan joked Monday. "And as soon as they tell us, we're all gonna be like, 'Yeah, OK.' Nobody would believe it anyway. Nah, I don't know. We're not gonna find out until kickoff."

Even though Rex Ryan impersonated Bill Belichick to start his news conference Monday, he wanted to make it clear he respects the Patriots' coach. "I think my admiration is really for Belichick more than anything," he said. "As a coach, that's the guy. He'll go down as probably the best in the history of the game. I like poking fun at him and all that stuff, but there's no coach I respect more than him."

The Patriots have informed DT Anthony Johnson that he is being waived today. Johnson has practice squad eligibility and would be a strong candidate to land there if he clears waivers. He has been the team's top interior pass rusher in nickel situations, although with the club using DEs inside at times in obvious passing situations, the Patriots probably felt like his spot was expendable to address other needs.

"Who do we think we are, Sal Paolantonio here? Maybe John Madden?" Edelman cracked.
