BOSTON Teams

ESPN Stats and Information

Making his season debut, David Price has thrown 2 shutout innings against the White Sox. If he comes back healthy, he can greatly help a Red Sox rotation that has had issues filling the spot behind Chris Sale, Rick Porcello, Eduardo Rodriguez and Drew Pomeranz this season. Boston starting pitchers other than those 4 have a 7.71 ERA this season, and the team is 3-7 in those starts.

From MLB's Eddie Grant in 1918 to the NFL's Pat Tillman in 2004, athletes from the major pro leagues were among those who died in overseas wars. Grant, a former infielder for Harvard and the Indians, Phillies, Reds and Giants died in France in World War I. Tillman, a star on defense for Arizona State and the Cardinals, enlisted after 9/11 and was killed in Afghanistan. On Memorial Day and always we remember with appreciation all who sacrificed for our safety and freedom.

Roster roulette continues for Red Sox, who call up reliever Blaine Boyer from Triple-A to take spot vacated when lefty Brian Johnson was optioned after throwing a five-hit shutout Saturday. Sox will have to make another move after Sunday's game to open spot for David Price, who starts Monday in Chicago.

Nationals all-star Stephen Strasburg wasn't the only pitcher to impress with his Saturday start. The Red Sox's Brian Johnson, the Brewers' Chase Anderson and the Tigers' Buck Farmer also baffled hitters to pick up wins. Anderson took a no-hitter into the eighth inning vs. the Diamondbacks.

Brian Johnson joined Pedro Martínez as the only Red Sox pitchers in the divisional era (since 1969) to throw a nine-inning shutout in their Fenway Park debut (source: Elias Sports Bureau).
