Twelve days after having surgery on his left ankle, Red Sox catcher/left fielder Blake Swihart rolled (literally, with the aid of a scooter) into the clubhouse before the game. While he expects to be ready for spring training, the majority of his offseason will be spent rehabbing. He's unlikely to be able to play winter ball to make up for lost at-bats after getting injured in early June.

Dustin Pedroia, who is away from the Red Sox tonight to attend family funeral services, will rejoin the team early Monday evening. Pedroia won't start Monday night's game, but will be available off the bench. In fact, manager John Farrell said Pedroia texted that he plans on getting a walkoff hit in the bottom of the ninth.

Patriots rookie QB Jacoby Brissett was 9-of-9 passing in the team's preseason win Friday but says, "You see things you could have done better." Brissett had entered the game with 3:48 remaining in the third quarter.

Patriots CB Logan Ryan talks about how "turnovers are contagious" after the team had three interceptions in Friday's preseason win over Carolina. Ryan had one of them.

Just how hot has Dustin Pedroia been?

ESPN Stats & Info and the Elias Sports Bureau break it down:

  • Pedroia has at least four hits in his last three home games, which is a Red Sox franchise record (Elias)
  • At one point Saturday, Pedroia recorded a hit in 11 straight at-bats, which started back on Thursday. That mark was just one shy of tying the MLB record, which has been done three times. Walt Dropo was the last do so back in 1952 for the Tigers (Elias)
  • In his past 3 games, Pedroia raised his batting average from .306 to .320. He went from 11th to second in the AL batting race

Price is finally right for Red Sox

With a win against the Royals on Saturday, David Price is now 4-0 with a 1.93 ERA in his last four starts. Prior to that stretch, he had been winless dating back to July 10 (five starts over that time), ESPN Stats & Info notes.
