Boston College has actually made considerable progress since last season, particularly on offense. Alas, road games at Florida State are not conducive to displays of improvement. The Seminoles are up big on the Eagles with less than eight minutes to go in the first half.

Red Sox LHP Drew Pomeranz on offseason stem-cell injection to relieve elbow soreness. "They kind of scrape (flexor) tendon to create some bleeding and then they shoot stem cells on top. I was fine 5 minutes into it, then about 20 minutes later I couldn't bend my arm for 5 days."

File this under "only at All-Star Weekend": Celtics coach Brad Stevens and Rev. Jesse Jackson were on the same commercial flight leaving New Orleans to return to Boston today. No word on whether they discussed the Celtics missing out on trading for DeMarcus Cousins.

Red Sox RHP Steven Wright encouraged by way his shoulder feels after first bullpen session since early October. He threw 10-15 knuckleballs, the rest fastballs; said it "went about as well as it could've."

Boston Celtics coach Brad Stevens' pregame speech to the East All-Stars: "It's an honor for us to be here and we appreciate the opportunity to be here with you guys. I get asked all the time about, ‘What inspired you to get into coaching? And what inspired you to want to do this?' And the truth of the matter is nobody is inspired to get into coaching, it just means we weren't good enough to be players. And ultimately the people that inspired me as a kid were the Reggie Millers, were the Larry Birds, were the Magic Johnsons, the Michael Jordans of our era — the guys that are sitting in your shoes. And so I just want to say thank you for the opportunity to share the day with you. And also I recognize the fact of what you mean to those kids."

To me, the larger issue with Blake Swihart is how much the Red Sox messed with him by moving him to outfield. Ankle injury while playing left field cost him almost entire season; throwing mechanics altered from what he was used to as catcher.

Scott Lauber ESPN Staff Writer

On Blake Swihart, whose throwing issues continued in live BP today: He was always likely to open season in Triple-A because of contract status (Swihart has options; Christian Vazquez does not). Throwing issue likely curable, but reinforces value of going back to minors.
