Boston Celtics coach Brad Stevens suggested his team was close on a "smaller" deal at the trade deadline. "I was actually walking into practice [last] Thursday morning thinking there was a move that was about to be made," Stevens said on Boston sports radio 98.5 the Sports Hub. "Not a big one but a relatively smaller one, I guess would be the right way to put it. … Like I said, I thought we were close on one but then that didn't materialize."

John Farrell told reporters he will discuss Hanley Ramirez's sore shoulder with Dominican Republic'a WBC team. "If he goes, we've got to be corresponding with their medical staff to make sure there's some increase at some point of throwing program. In our planning, he's not solely a DH."

LeBron James owns the multimedia platform Uninterrupted, but would not give his vote as to where Boston's Isaiah Thomas should stand in the MVP conversation: "I'm not a media guy. It's not for me to talk about. I just like watching him play. Obviously they wouldn't be in this position without him. I'm not in the media. Well, I actually am in the media, I'm not in y'all media. I'm in my own thing."
