Free-agent defensive lineman Antwan Lake is scheduled to visit the Patriots on Thursday night, his agent Andy Simms said.

Lake is a six-year veteran who has played for the Lions (2002), Falcons (2004-2005) and Saints (2006-2008). He has played in 79 career regular-season games (11 starts), so he's primarily a backup option.

Lake (6-4, 308) visited the Patriots a few weeks ago, Simms said. He left without signing a contract and proceeded to visit the Browns, where he tweaked his hamstring during a workout.

Lake had to cancel two other workouts, and it's possible that the Patriots want to give him another physical following the injury.

Simms said Lake has played different techniques on the defensive line, and such versatility could be enticing to the Patriots.
