KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- News from Red Sox manager Terry Francona's pregame meeting with reporters in Kansas City:
Junichi Tazawa was placed on the 60-day disabled list; he tweaked his left groin in Chicago on Sept. 4, the last time he pitched. His season is over, but he will remain with the Red Sox until their season ends.
"I had no idea what to expect this year and I was anxious about a lot of different things, but looking back, I accomplished a lot," Tazawa said through an interpreter.
Nick Green traveled to Boston on Sunday night for tests on what he called his "dead leg." The Red Sox now think the cause may be a disc-related problem in his back. He will remain in Boston and undergo more tests.
Shortstop Chris Woodward was recalled from Triple-A Pawtucket as a backup infielder. Francona said the Sox are still trying to ease Jed Lowrie back in after he had surgery on his wrist earlier in the season.
Francona added that the Royals' clubhouse kid said it could be "a long night" with the weather conditions here. The forecast called for rain for much of the night.
