Sources: David Ross agrees to deal

The Boston Red Sox and backup catcher David Ross have reached agreement on a $6.2 million, two-year contract, sources confirmed for ESPN.com.

Finalization of the deal is pending a physical. Ross appeared in eight games for the Red Sox in 2008.

Ross will be entering his 12th season in the majors. A career backup, he spent the last four seasons with the Atlanta Braves behind Brian McCann. In 62 games for the Braves last season, Ross batted .256 with nine home runs and 23 RBIs.

Ross also has played for the Dodgers, Pittsburgh, San Diego and Cincinnati.
