Receiver Welker out for Pats

One of quarterback Tom Brady's main targets will miss New England's matchup Sunday against the rival New York Jets.

Wide receiver Wes Welker is out with a knee injury.

Welker was listed as questionable on the Patriots' injury report Friday after being limited all week, but was expected to play against the Jets. He was limited in practice before the game against the Bills, but was able to play.

In Week 1's Patriots victory over the Buffalo Bills, Welker had 12 catches for 93 yards.

In two seasons with the Patriots, Welker has 223 receptions and 11 touchdowns.

With Welker out, that likely means that rookie Julian Edelman steps into his place. Edelman, a seventh-round draft choice out of Kent State, did not play in the season opener.

Joey Galloway also was expected to see an increased role in Welker's absence.
