Geoff Ward to coach in Germany

BOSTON -- The Boston Bruins announced Thursday that assistant coach Geoff Ward has resigned. He will now serve as head coach of the Mannheim Eagles of the Deutsche Eishockey Liga in Germany.

Ward spent seven seasons on Claude Julien's coaching staff, including the 2011 Stanley Cup championship season. Before that, he spent 12 years in the OHL and AHL, and was the AHL Coach of the Year back in 2003.

Ward was considered a top assistant to Julien, and ran Boston's practices during the Winter Olympics when Julien was with Team Canada in Sochi.

It's the second offseason loss for Bruins management. In May, assistant GM Jim Benning resigned to become GM of the Vancouver Canucks.
