2000: Klemm the first building block at left tackle

Similar to 1997, the Patriots passed on a traditional photo with the top pick, Hawaii tackle Adrian Klemm. The club didn't have a first-round pick -- it went to the Jets as compensation for head coach Bill Belichick -- so Klemm (46th overall) represented the first choice of the Belichick era. Injuries contributed to Klemm never emerging as projected (26 games, 10 starts). But all was not lost; the Patriots drafted Tom Brady in the sixth round that year. -- Mike Reiss
