Nathan Cleverly (30-3, 16 KOs), of Wales, claimed a secondary light heavyweight world title by sixth-round knockout of Juergen Braehmer (48-3, 35 KOs) on his turf in Germany in October. They were supposed to meet in a rematch this spring – Braehmer had a rematch clause in the contract – but Team Sauerland told ESPN that instead of the sequel taking place in April or May, as initially planned, Cleverly may have an interim bout during that time frame instead before facing Braehmer in the rematch.

Lightweight world titleholder Robert Easter Jr. (19-0, 14 KOs), of Toledo, Ohio, is due to make his second defense this summer against Russia's Denis Shafikov (38-2-1, 20 KOs), a former two-time title challenger and Easter's mandatory challenger. The fight was scheduled to go to a purse bid on Tuesday but the IBF granted a one-week postponement until April 4. The sides could still make a deal before the promotional rights are auctioned off. Easter won a vacant title by hard-fought split decision over Richard Commey in September and outpointed Luis Cruz in his first defense on Feb. 10. Shafikov won a split decision against Commey in December in a title eliminator to earn the title shot.

Featherweight Ruben Villa, of Salinas, California, and junior lightweight Michael Dutchover, of Santa Fe, California, both 19-year-old blue chip prospects co-promoted by Banner Promotions and Thompson Boxing, were added Tuesday to the undercard of the April 14 card at the MGM National Harbor in Oxon Hill, Maryland. They will both will be fighting on the East Coast for the first time in non-televised bouts on the Showtime "ShoBox" tripleheader headlined by interim light heavyweight titlist Dmitry Bivol (9-0. 7 KOs) defending against Samuel Clarkson (19-3, 12 KOs). Villa (4-0, 2 KOs), a two-time National Golden Gloves winner, who was 164-17 as an amateur, and Dutchover (3-0, 3 KOs), a 2016 National Golden Gloves runner-up at 132 pounds, who was 130-17 as an amateur, will both compete in six-round bouts against opponents to be named.

Former junior lightweight titlist Javier Fortuna (31-1-1, 22 KOs), 27, of the Dominican Republic, has renewed his promotional agreement with Sampson Lewkowicz, the promoter announced on Monday. Fortuna has won two fights in a row since he lost his 130-pound belt by upset 11th-round knockout to Jason Sosa in June. "Sampson Lewkowicz is and always will be my promoter," Fortuna said. "He has done right by me and my career at every turn. I will be world champion again with Sampson in my corner." Lewkowicz said he is working on his next fight and happy to re-sign him. "Javier is a son to me," he said. "I am honored to be his promoter and look forward to continuing to work for him. He is a great champion with many great fights left. After he won his first title, he told me we would work together for his entire career and he has kept his word. I will do everything to make him a champion again."

When the Miguel Cotto-James Kirkland HBO PPV fight scheduled for Feb. 25 was canceled it left the rest of the fights on the card in limbo, including the bout between junior featherweight titlist Guillermo Rigondeaux (17-0, 11 KOs) and interim titlist Moises Flores (25-0, 17 KOs). The bout is scheduled to go to a WBA purse bid on April 3. Rigondeaux is entitled to a 75-25 split of the winning purse. Minimum bid is $120,000. The camps could still make a deal but if it goes to a purse bid and Rigondeaux promoter Roc Nation Sports wins there's a good chance the bout could wind up on the HBO PPV undercard of the Andre Ward-Sergey Kovalev light heavyweight title rematch, which is in the works for June 17. Both fighters would be coming off long layoffs. Rigondeaux has not fought since last July and Flores has been out of the ring since last June.

Light heavyweight Artur Beterbiev (11-0, 11 KOs), the Montreal-based Russian contender, and Germany's Enrico Koelling (23-1, 6 KOs) are in talks for a world title elimination fight, Yvon Michel, Beterbiev's promoter, told ESPN on Monday. Beterbiev was supposed to face Sullivan Barrera in an eliminator on April 21 in Barrera's adopted hometown of Miami after Michel won a purse bid. But Barrera pulled out, unhappy with the terms. According to Michel, Koelling "is the only (IBF rated) contender willing to fight Beterbiev for the position." Michel said he and Chris Meyer of Koelling promoter Team Sauerland are discussing a deal for the fight. The winner of the proposed bout would become a mandatory challenger for one of the belts held by Andre Ward, who first is likely headed to a June 17 rematch with Sergey Kovalev.

Heavyweight Hasim Rahman Jr., the son of former heavyweight world champion Hasim Rahman, was due to make his professional debut in a four-round fight against Brian Imes (1-4, 1 KO) on promoter Greg Cohen's card on Thursday night in Randolph, New Jersey. However, Cohen told ESPN that Rahman-Imes has been moved to April 14 so Rahman can make his pro debut on the untelevised portion of the "ShoBox" card Cohen is co-promoting at the new MGM National Harbor in Oxon Hill, Maryland. "When I landed the MGM (as a site) for the April 14 ‘ShoBox,' he really wanted to debut near his hometown of Baltimore and I think I will add more value to the show, so we pushed the debut off two weeks," Cohen said.
