The next Top Rank card on ESPN is official and it will include two world title fights in which the four combatants are a combined 108-0 with 73 KOs. Last week, Top Rank announced that featherweight world titleholder Oscar Valdez (22-0, 19 KOs) would face the Philippines’ Genesis Servania (29-0, 12 KOs) in the main event and that super middleweight titlist Gilberto “Zurdo” Ramirez (35-0, 24 KOs), of Mexico, would defend against Philadelphia’s Jessie Hart (22-0, 18 KOs) in the co-feature of a Sept. 22 card at the Tucson Arena in Tucson, Arizona, where Mexico’s Valdez grew up. On Saturday night during the Terence Crawford-Julius Indongo ESPN telecast the network announced it would air the card (10:30 p.m. ET). A kickoff news conference is scheduled for Thursday morning at the Tucson Arena.

The camps for unified heavyweight world titleholder Anthony Joshua (19-0, 19 KOs), of England, and mandatory challenger Kubrat Pulev (25-1, 13 KOs), of Bulgaria, have made a deal for the fight to take place on Oct. 28, according to sources with knowledge of the agreement. The likely site is Millennium Stadium in Cardiff, Wales, but it’s not done yet. There is an outside chance of the fight being in Las Vegas. Joshua promoter Eddie Hearn of Matchroom Boxing will be in Las Vegas this week because he also promotes secondary light heavyweight titlist Nathan Cleverly, who defends against Badou Jack on Saturday’s Floyd Mayweather-Conor McGregor undercard, and he likely will continue talking with MGM Grand executives about possibly hosting Joshua-Pulev.

Why does the Nevada State Athletic Commission have rules if they are willing to change them for one fight and allow Floyd Mayweather and Conor McGregor to box in 8-ounce gloves when the rule is clearly 10-ounce gloves for the 154-pound weight class the fight is taking place in? The commission claims the rules are in place as a matter of safety and the Association of Ringside Physicians, a leading group of medical professionals dedicated to the health and safety of boxers and mixed martial artists, wrote the commission a letter saying the rule should not be waved. Yet, the commission changed the rule for no apparent reason. What’s next, allowing glass-coated gloves or for the fighters to be allowed to use chairs WWE-style?
