The flashy and outspoken Adrien Broner brings an audience. His action-packed welterweight fight on Saturday night in his hometown of Cincinnati against good pal Adrian Granados, which resulted in a split decision win for Broner in a razor-close battle, averaged 779,000 viewers for Showtime and peaked at 859,000, according to Nielsen Media Research. It was the best viewership and best peak viewership for a Showtime main event in two years, since Deontay Wilder outpointed Bermane Stiverne to win a heavyweight title in January 2015, though that fight averaged 1.24 million viewers and peaked at 1.34 million. The Broner-Granados numbers, however, only include Showtime subscribers and do not include those watching Showtime's free preview weekend or the live stream of the card on Twitter, a first-time experiment for the network, which likely added many more viewers.

Mexican legend Julio Cesar Chavez Sr. was with his son Julio Jr. at Monday's kickoff news conference – the first of four this week in four different cities -- for the May 6 showdown with Canelo Alvarez and had this to say about the HBO PPV fight (at a catch weight of 164.5 pounds): "I foresee a real tough fight. We have seen the best of Canelo, but we have not seen the best of my son. I firmly believe that with a disciplined training camp, Junior is able to knock out not just Canelo but anyone in his way. I want to thank everyone who has come out to support my son. I can honestly say that this is a dream come true, and we are looking forward to the fight."
