Five keys for Rances Barthelemy

Unbeaten junior lightweight Rances Barthelemy begins a new year with an opportunity to win his first world title.

A native of Cuba, Barthelemy (19-0, 12 KOs), faces 130-pound titlist Argenis Mendez to open the 2014 season on ESPN's "Friday Night Fights" at Target Center in Minneapolis.

Barthelemy is looking for his 20th victory, and Mendez (21-2-1, 11 KOs) will be trying to recover from a poor performance against Arash Usmanee in August, when he survived with a majority draw to retain his belt.

Here are five keys for Barthelemy against Mendez:

Be the center of attention

Body work

Use it to your advantage

Straight and narrow

Save it for later
