Chad Dawson stepped on the scales Friday at 182.8 pounds, missing the contracted 179-pound weight limit and receiving a $3,000 fine from his already modest $15,000 purse for Saturday night's comeback fight against 39-year-old journeyman George Blades at the StubHub Center in Carson, California.
The scheduled 10-round fight is on the undercard of welterweight Robert Guerrero's first fight in 13 months (since a decision loss to champion Floyd Mayweather Jr.) against Yoshihiro Kamegai.
Blades (23-5, 16 KOs) made weight Friday, coming in at 177.4 pounds. He will receive a purse of $20,000, plus $1,500 from the Dawson fine (the other $1,500 goes to the California State Athletic Commission).
Dawson (31-3, 17 KOs), a former light heavyweight champion, is coming off a one-year layoff and back-to-back knockout losses.
