POTSDAM, Germany -- Tyron Zeuge of Germany defeated Giovanni De Carolis by technical knockout in the last round of their rematch to take the Italian's WBA super middleweight title on Saturday.
Referee Roberto Ramirez stepped between the fighters in the 12th round after Zeuge left the exhausted-looking De Carolis rocking against the ropes after a barrage of punches. De Carolis already had fallen to the canvas.
Both fighters gave as good as they got in the early rounds, with Zeuge appearing marginally better from the eighth before finishing the job convincingly in the 12th.
Zeuge improved his record to 19-0-1 (11 KOs) while De Carolis dropped to 24-6-2 (12 KOs).
The fighters' last bout in July was judged a draw in Berlin.
