Flyweight world titleholder Daigo Higa was stripped of his belt on Saturday for failing to make weight ahead of his third defense scheduled against Cristofer Rosales on Sunday at the Yokohama Arena in Yokohama, Japan.
Higa (15-0, 15 KOs), 22, of Japan, was 114 pounds at the weigh in, two over the class limit of 112. He was given time for another attempt at making weight but after 90 minutes gave up.
Rosales (26-3, 17 KOs), 23, of Nicaragua, was 111.5 pounds and can still win the title if he wins the fight. If Higa wins the fight the belt will remain vacant.
In the main event, secondary middleweight world titlist Ryota Murata (13-1, 10 KOs), 32, a 2012 Japanese Olympic gold medalist, will make his first defense against former European champion Emanuele Blandamura (27-2, 5 KOs), 38, of Italy. They both made weight with Murata weighing the division limit of 160 pounds and Blandamura scaling 159.5 pounds.
The Murata-Blandamura bout will air live in an international edition of Top Rank Boxing on ESPN at 8 a.m. ET on ESPN2 and ESPN Deportes with an 11 p.m. ET replay on ESPN2.
