Randy White played at Thomas McKean High School in Wilmington before winning the Outland Trophy and Lombardi Award at Maryland and a hall of fame career with the Cowboys. Delaware State standout John Taylor caught the game-winning touchdown pass from Joe Montana in Super Bowl XXI. Rich Gannon threw 150 consecutive passes without an interception at Delaware in 1986.

Hall of Fame coaches Bill Murray led the Fightin' Blue Hens to three undefeated seasons before going to Duke, David Nelson fine-tuned the Wing-T, and Tubby Raymond's teams won 300 games and three national titles. Delaware State marches to the tune of the "The Approaching Swarm." Current Hornets in the NFL include Eagles center Jamaal Jackson.
