Herbstreit: Loser of USC-ND out of playoff (1:49)

Keep an eye on October 25. Chicago would be eligible for roster relief and apply for the hardship exception. The exception is granted if a team has four players that have missed at least three regular season games with an injury. The Bulls with 15 contracts would be granted a roster spot. Chicago could also start the 45 day clock on one of their two-way contracts, Ryan Arcidiacono or Antonio Blakeney.

Dodgers put Cubs on brink of elimination (2:05)

David Schoenfield ESPN Senior Writer

Joe Maddon isn't going to do anything out of the norm with his team down 3-0. He has three meetings during a season: Spring training, the All-Star break and before the playoffs. "There's nothing inspirational I can say at this point," he said.

You can analyze all the numbers and metrics and managerial decisions, but the Dodgers are one win away their first World Series appearance since 1988 because they've completely shut down the Cubs' offense. Through three games, they've held the Cubs to a .160 average while striking out 32 batters and issuing just four walks. It's not over until it's over and if anyone knows about impossible comebacks it's Theo Epstein, but this one looks over.

After a 6-1 NLCS Game 3 victory, the Dodgers are shaking hands with a 3-0 series lead and a chance to finish off the sweep Wednesday night at Wrigley Field.

The Cubs have some late life after an Alex Avila single and an Albert Almora double to lead off the ninth inning. But they still have a long ways to go to catch the Dodgers in Game 3.

Chicago fans are exiting the ballpark early as the wheels have completely come off for the Cubs late in Game 3.

The Dodgers' Yu Darvish needed just seven pitches to get through the six and is at 76 for the game. There is a pronounced nervous energy at Wrigley Field right now.

Interesting decision from Dave Roberts in the sixth. He had Curtis Granderson in the on-deck circle, but pulled him back to let Yu Darvish hit for himself with the bases loaded and two out ... and Carl Edwards Jr. walked Darvish, adding to L.A.'s lead. It's been that kind of postseason for the Dodgers (and Edwards) so far.

Bradford Doolittle ESPN Staff Writer

Wow. A gift run for the Dodgers to push the lead to 4-1. Yu Darvish, who wasn't going to swing had the Cubs' Carl Edwards walked up to the plate and placed the ball on a tee, walks him on four pitches to force in a run.

Bradford Doolittle ESPN Staff Writer

Now, likely spurred on by my Old Hoss Radbourn reference, Dave Roberts has Tony Watson throwing in the Dodgers' bullpen. Anthony Rizzo is leading off the sixth for the Cubs.
