The Cubs lost 5-4 to the Red Sox after giving up 5 runs in the first inning raising their ERA in the opening inning to 9.82 on the season. Jake Arrieta wasn't sharp giving up 10 hits and 3 walks in just 4.2 innings though he managed not to give up any runs after the first. The Cubs actually led 1-0 after Kris Bryant homered but they were 1 for 11 with runners in scoring position while Kyle Schwarber struck out 4 times, Jason Heyward 3 times.
