CHICAGO Teams

Kris Bryant hit his league leading (tied) 34th home run of the season, a blast to center in the 8th. The run means the Cubs have scored at least 3 in 24 consecutive games, the most games in a row since 1996. The Dodgers still lead 4-3.

Big moment for Mike Montgomery as he works out of another jam in the fifth. He's been off his game but kept the Cubs in it having thrown 5 innings using a season high 91 pitches. He only trails 3-2 having given up 6 hits and 4 walks. Not the best outing but perhaps it's a learning experience as Joe Maddon left him despite clearly not having his best command.

Anthony Rizzo drove in his 88th run of the season in the fifth inning against the Dodgers on Friday. He's been overshadowed lately by a hot hitting Kris Bryant but remains in the hunt for the NL MVP. He's finished 10th and then fourth the last two years.

Anthony Rizzo just came through with his 87th RBI on the season as he brought the Cubs within one of the Dodgers in the 5th inning. Rizzo has been overshadowed by Kris Bryant lately but still leads the team in runs driven in and is their "other" MVP candidate.

Joe Maddon and David Ross presented Vin Scully with the number 67 from the Wrigley Field scoreboard as well the Dodgers flag that flies at Wrigley. Maddon also gave him a set of his t-shirts from Do Simple Better to Try Not to Suck. He's hoping Scully will wear them in retirement.

Joe Maddon says things are progressing well with his injured pitchers as John Lackey (shoulder) and Hector Rondon (triceps) have been throwing while Pedro Strop is also taking steps in his rehab from a knee injury.

The Dodgers have Bryant's number

The Cubs begin a three-game road series against the Dodgers on Friday and if history is any indication, Kris Bryant won't be his normal self. Bryant is 8-37 with 19 K in his career vs. the Dodgers, and his .216 batting average vs. the Dodgers is his worst against any NL team (ESPN Stats & Info).
