Week 7 NFL score predictions: Panthers at Bears

It has been two years since Chicago has won consecutive games. That isn't likely to happen Sunday with Carolina's defense focusing on the run and daring Mitchell Trubisky to pass, pass and pass some more.

The NHL's one-game suspension for Vancouver Canucks defenseman Erik Gudbranson, for boarding Boston's Frank Vatrano on Thursday, makes sense. His game misconduct occurred early enough into the first period that this becomes the de facto two-game suspension it should have been for a regretful hit. But some fans are asking why Zack Kassian of the Oilers didn't get a hearing for his brutal hit on Chicago's Ryan Hartman that night, which earned him a boarding minor. The Dept. of Player Safety looked at it, and determined it was a hit to Hartman's side rather than the numbers, as Hartman "opened up" into the hit. A penalty, for sure, but nothing suspension worthy for Kassian, which was the right call.

"We didn't do a good job of containing. Whether we brought the gunners in or not, it's still the same number of people. It wasn't like we had nine guys out there. It's understanding the leverage and how you have to leverage and contain a kicking play, whether it's kickoff return, which that was a little bit of a different thing in itself, as far as a ruling. The punt return was not leveraging it for contain on the right side. We take those players, we practice it, and like all mistakes, you admit them and then you fix them and then hope to god you don't do it again." -- Bears coach John Fox on the major special teams coverage mistakes the Bears committed vs. Baltimore.

Jeff Dickerson ESPN Staff Writer

"It wasn't a relief but it was more like a building process, you know we just focusing on that all week long, punching out the balls, intercepting and we went out Sunday and did it. So we just gonna have to build off that and stay focused on just getting turnovers." -- Bears OLB Pernell McPhee on Chicago's defense finally forcing some turnovers (three) in last week's win.
