CHICAGO Teams

Joe Maddon has stuck to his guns when it comes to his starting pitchers. Up by double digits in the central division he's been pulling his starters at about 100 pitches as he did again on Sunday with Jon Lester. Lester was at 98 after six innings when he got pinch hit for in a 0-0 game. Usually the pitchers will complain to the Cubs manager but understand Maddon is saving their arms for the playoffs. If this was October Lester would undoubtedly have continued.

Jason Heyward might be coming out of his season long slump. He was 5 for his last 5 before lining out hard (102.6 mph) to the end the sixth with the lead run at third base against the Dodgers. Heyward has had at least one hit in every game since getting four straight days off. The Cubs and Dodgers have yet to score a run through 6 innings.

Watch Ben Zobrist discuss his sac bunt in the first inning on Saturday against the Dodgers. It was the first in MLB by a cleanup hitter in the first inning this season. Zobrist says he was actually given the "suggestion" from Joe Maddon to bunt for a hit and once he got down 0-1 he figured he had a better chance of getting one down then swinging away.
