After taking an early 2-0 lead things fell apart for the Cubs in their 5-2 loss to the Padres on Monday. Despite earning 10 walks while issuing just one (in the 8th) they couldn't bring any of them home after the first inning. The team was 1 for 10 with runners in scoring position dropping their season avg in that category to .215. Kyle Hendricks was perfect for 3 innings before giving up a grand slam to Hunter Renfroe in the fourth and the Padres never looked back. The Cubs have dropped all 4 games on their road trip so far.

The Padres are on pace to become the first team this year to issue 10 or more walks in a game without their hitters earning one. (ESPN Stats and Info). Meanwhile the Cubs are on pace to be the fourth team to lose this season when earning at least 10 free passes.

White Sox 5, Red Sox 4: David Price's debut went about as well as the Red Sox could have hoped. If only reliever Matt Barnes had held a lead for him. Price dealt with control issues but gave up little more than a three-run homer to Melky Cabrera in an 88-pitch, five-inning performance. But the White Sox scored twice against Barnes in the seventh inning to win the opener of the three-game series.
