The Cubs lost 9-4 to the Dodgers behind 4 home runs including two, three run home runs off starter Jon Lester. The visitors hit three themselves, all off Clayton Kershaw but they failed to get the big hit when they needed it most. Javier Baez and Kris Bryant both struck out in the 5th inning with two on in a 6-4 game AFTER the Cubs had chased Kershaw. That was the difference as LA extended the lead in the late innings. The Cubs have been swept in a series 3 times this year already, that's one more time than all of last season.

Sunday was the first time in his career (reg or postseason) Clayton Kershaw gave up multiple home runs and at least 10 hits in a game but he left with the lead as the Dodgers hit two, 3 run home time off Jon Lester.

Clayton Kershaw has thrown 99 pitches, the most through 4 innings in a start for him since at least 2009.

For just the second time in Jon Lester's career he's given up multiple 3 run home runs in the same game. It last happened in 2010 before Cody Bellinger and Kike Hernandez did it on Sunday in back to back innings.

The back-to-back shutouts give the Cubs five with the season not yet two months old. Last year en route to the World Series title, the Cubs didn't suffer their fifth shutout until July 26 and were blanked six times all season.

According to the Elias Sports Bureau, the Dodgers are the first team since 1917 to shutout the defending World Series champion in back-to-back games while issuing 3 or fewer hits in each one. The Cubs had two hits on Friday and just 3 hits on Saturday in losing both games by a combined 9-0 score. All five hits over the two games were singles.

Ben Zobrist said he hurt his left wrist on a swing in Friday's game. He's day to day and will reevaluate on Sunday if he can play that day.
