Brandon Rideau had a good day despite a slippery field.

The third year receiver stole the show during Friday's practice, despite constant rain and bad footing. Rideau pulled in several difficult catches in traffic, including two down the left sidelines over cornerbacks Nathan Vasher and Trumaine McBride.

"I just come out and work out every day and try to make the plays they give me an opportunity to make," said the 6-foot-3 wideout. "There are some spots open as far as the receiver group goes, so I just want to make sure I do my part to get one."

At this point, Rideau appears to be the third receiver behind Devin Hester and Earl Bennett, but how that'll translate over to the regular season is somewhat unclear.

"You get to training camp and you let him tell us what type of role [Rideau will have this year]," said head coach Lovie Smith. "It's no secret, there's an opportunity for some of the receivers to step up. He's taken advantage of the situation. We'll just let him play, and let it play out through the course of camp and preseason games too."

Other news and notes:

  • Mark Anderson and Chris Williams squared off during a full team drill. Other players, notably Desmond Clark, stepped in to break up the fight. Williams appeared to take a cheap shot at Anderson a few plays before the fracas broke out.

"It's all love," said Anderson after practice. "At the end of the day we're still brothers, just a little brotherly love, you know a little head tap here and there. But it's all love."

  • Rookie Al Afalava intercepted a pass during red zone 7-on-7.

  • Danieal Manning and Kevin Payne were back at safety.

  • Jamar Williams got more work at strong-side linebacker.

  • Bears practiced in full pads for seventh consecutive day.

  • Ladies in the stands erupted after a Jason McKie reception out of the backfield. Must be family.
