Aramis Ramirez to sit out Tuesday

CHICAGO -- Chicago Cubs third baseman Aramis Ramirez was a scratch from Tuesday night's 3-1 loss against the Nationals due to tightness in his back.

Originally slated to bat third, Ramirez was replaced by utilityman Blake DeWitt. Ramirez was unresponsive to treatments from the Cubs' training staff prior to Tuesday's game.

"It got tight after Sunday's game," Ramirez said. "Hopefully it's only a one-day thing."

Ramirez has 20 homers and a team-high 69 RBIs on the season. After starting off July on a three-week hitting spree, Ramirez cooled off at the end of the month. He snapped out of an 0-for-20 slump on Aug. 2. Ramirez led all of baseball with nine home runs in July.
