ORLAND PARK, Ill. -- The mother of former Northwestern quarterback Zak Kustok was gunned down this week by her husband, authorities in suburban Chicago said Thursday.
The Cook County state's attorney's office said Allan Kustok has been charged with murdering Anita Kustok of Orland Park. She was pronounced dead Wednesday at Palos Community Hospital from a gunshot wound in her head.
Authorities say the 58-year-old Kustok worked at Central Elementary School in Riverside. Her son led Northwestern to the Big Ten title in 2000. Her daughter, Sarah Kustok, is a Comcast SportsNet reporter.
Police are releasing few details about the case, including where the shooting occurred.
