Northern Illinois junior quarterback DeMarcus Grady has joined the Huskies basketball team, the school announced on Tuesday.
The 6-foot-1, 200-pound Grady last played basketball competitively as a senior at East Grand Rapids High School in Michigan. He earned All-State honorable mention honors as a basketball player.
"DeMarcus brings a great attitude and a lot of experience to the program," Northern Illinois men's basketball coach Ricardo Patton said. "He knows what it takes for a team to become a winner. He has been on a team that went from 2-10 to 7-6 and this year 11-3. He has to work himself into basketball shape; we'll know more about what he can bring on the court as we get into the conference season."
Grady began practicing with the team on Monday and will travel with the Huskies to play Southern Illinois on Wednesday.
The Huskies are off to a 3-5 start this basketball season.
Grady started Northern Illinois' football season-opener at quarterback against Iowa State and backed up Chandler Harnish the rest of the season. He rushed for three touchdowns this season.
