Caitlin Lever drove in six runs, including a tie-breaking grand slam, to give the Chicago Bandits a 10-6 victory Saturday over the host Akron Racers.
With the score tied 6-6 in the top of the seventh, the Bandits loaded the bases with help from the Racers. Nicole Trimboli reached on a throwing error by shortstop Jessica Toocheck, Kristie Fox was hit by a pitch by Akron's Kate Robinson and Jamie Schloredt singled. That brought up Lever, who put the Bandits ahead for good.
Lever also had a two-run single to kick off a five-run, two-out rally in the top of the second for the Bandits. Akron's Kaitlin Cochran hit two homers, a two-run shot and a solo shot. Both Lever and Cochran went 3-for-4 on the day.
Eileen Canney (9-1) got the win for the Bandits, coming on in relief and shutting out the Racers over the last three innings of the game. Bandits starter Kristina Thorson struggled, allowing four runs on four hits and one walk in 2 1/3 innings. Reliever Brandice Balschmiter didn't fare much better, allowing two runs on three hits in 1 2/3 innings.
