Earl Bennett feels lucky to be alive

Chicago Bears wide receiver Earl Bennett is apparently OK after an early morning car accident.

llinois State Police say Bennett's 1973 Chevy Impala was hit from behind by a 1998 Pontiac Sunfire in Chicago early Monday.

Master Sgt. Jeff Kashmeier said no one was injured and alcohol was not involved. He says the driver of the Pontiac was cited for driving with a suspended or revoked license and for failing to reduce speed.

Kashmeier says Bennett had a passenger with him but isn't sure who it was.

Bennett tweeted early Monday morning that he was hit by a drunk driver and both cars smashed into a wall.

"Thanking God I'm alive!!!" Bennett tweeted at approximately 2:30 a.m.

Efforts to reach Bennett early Monday were unsuccessful.

"He's working out down there [in the weight room]," Bears head coach Lovie Smith said Monday afternoon. "He's fine. He was, from what I'm told, in an accident. He's fine, again [he] worked out down there this morning. No issues."

The Bears beat the Buffalo Bills 22-19 on Sunday in Toronto. Bennett led the team with four catches for 52 yards and a touchdown.

Bennett described his car as "Ole Skool," and said it was totaled.

"Drunk guy ran into back of my ole skool we smashed into wall ole skool done!!! But I'm alive that's all that matters," Bennett tweeted on his account earlbennett80. "Guess it wasn't meant for me to have that car oh well!"
