Caleb Hanie confident about chance

Chicago Bears quarterback Caleb Hanie said Wednesday he won't be affected by the presence of a veteran backup.

Hanie was asked early Wednesday about how the presence of Kyle Orton would affect his confidence. The Bears put in a waiver claim on Orton, according to a source, but the Kansas City Chiefs were ahead of the Bears and landed Orton.

The Bears then landed Josh McCown, who was in the San Francisco 49ers camp earlier this year, but did not make the opening day roster.

"It won't affect my confidence at all," Hanie said Wednesday morning when asked about the possibility of Orton joining the team. "I know where I am in this offense. I know what I'm doing in this offense. I've been waiting for this opportunity.

Bears head coach Lovie Smith reassured Hanie early Wednesday.

"I talked to Lovie this morning," Hanie said. "He just said, 'Whatever veteran quarterback we bring in, you don't need to worry about it. You're our guy.' That was it."
