Paul Konerko activated from DL

CHICAGO – The Chicago White Sox activated captain Paul Konerko from the 15-day disabled list Monday.

Konerko had been out since July 3 with a lower back strain. He spent three days at Double-A Birmingham on a minor league rehab assignment, collecting three hits in Saturday's game.

Konerko's season has been below his standards; he has a .249 batting average, seven home runs and 30 RBIs in 67 games. He had been coming on before his back pain began, hitting safely in seven of his last eight games, with a home run among his 11 hits plus five RBIs.

The White Sox cleared a roster spot for Konerko on Sunday when infielder Brent Morel was optioned to Triple-A Charlotte.
