Marian Hossa could play Tuesday

CHICAGO -- While Chicago Blackhawks forward Marian Hossa will travel with the team on their two-game road trip and could play Tuesday against the Phoenix Coyotes, fellow forward Ben Smith is on the way out.

"Hossa is doing better today [Monday]," coach Joel Quenneville said. "We're hoping he can play tomorrow."

Hossa did not practice Monday for a third consecutive day and did not play in Saturday's contest against the Boston Bruins. He's been out with an upper-body ailment, according to the team.

Rostislav Olesz ran drills with Patrick Kane and Dan Carcillo on Monday, replacing Hossa on the second line.

Smith has been out since suffering a concussion in the preseason. Quenneville said he was "really progressing" so a roster move was needed, and Chicago sent him to its AHL team in Rockford on Monday.

Smith was a late season callup last season and surprised with three goals in seven playoff games. He had 31 points for Rockford last season in his professional debut.

Quenneville also revealed that Corey Crawford will start in goal against the Coyotes in Glendale, Ariz.

The Blackawks conclude the trip in Colorado Thursday.
