Source: John Madden headed to Wolves

Former Chicago Blackhawks center John Madden will join the Chicago Wolves of the AHL, according to an NHL source.

Madden, an unrestricted free agent and three-time Stanley Cup winner, did not sign with an NHL club during the offseason, but said he wasn't interested in retiring and still wanted to play hockey.

The Wolves are an affiliate of the Vancouver Canucks, but Madden is not part of the Canucks organization.

An 11-year NHL player, Madden is known for his defensive prowess. He won the Selke award as the league's best defensive forward in 2001 while winning the Stanley Cup with the New Jersey Devils in 2000 and 2003.

Madden joined the Blackhawks in 2009-10 and won a third Stanley Cup that season. He played for the Minnesota Wild in 2010-2011.
