CHICAGO -- Chicago Blackhawks forward Patrick Sharp, who has 20 goals on the season, is out three to four weeks with what the team is describing as an upper body injury, but is likely an injured left hand.
The Hawks put Sharp on injured reserve and recalled Ben Smith from the Rockford IceHogs of the AHL.
Sharp left Sunday's 3-2 overtime loss against the Detroit Red Wings after the first period and didn't return.
Sharp scored the Hawks' second goal of the game at 4:19 of the first period and skated eight shifts. When asked if the injury happened on the goal, Blackhawks coach Joel Quenneville said, "Could be."
Replays seemed to show Sharp being hit on his left hand with Jiri Hudler's stick.
