Boston Bruins forward Shawn Thornton intercepted a pass from Shaw near the Blackhawks' blue line, and Thornton quickly shot the puck. The puck connected with Shaw's face, and he immediately fell to the ground and his body skidded to a stop on the ice with 4:01 left in the period. He laid still on the ice for a few seconds.
Shaw was attended to by the Blackhawks training staff and was able to leave the ice under his own power. He skated off the ice with a towel to his face and went straight to the team's dressing room.
Shaw played five shifts and saw 3:06 of ice time in the first period.
Shaw has five goals and four assists in 23 playoff games this season.
