As the series moved to Detroit, the Red Wings got goals 31 seconds apart in the second from Gustav Nyquist and Drew Miller. Patrick Kane scored 4:35 into the third period to pull Chicago within one, and it appeared the Hawks' Andrew Shaw had tied the game about a minute later. However, officials waved off the goal, saying Shaw was in the crease. Pavel Datsyuk scored minutes later to give the Wings a two-goal lead again. The game also marked the return of Viktor Stalberg, who was benched by Joel Quenneville in the first two games of the series.
