SUMMERVILLE, S.C. -- Former Eagles running back Tom Sullivan died in a car accident Thursday night near his home.

Sullivan, 52, is survived by his wife, Barbara, and two children.

Sullivan's best season as a pro was 1973, when he rushed for 968 yards and caught 50 passes for 322 yards for the Eagles. At that time, the 968 rushing yards represented the third highest total in team history. He is eighth on the club's all-time rushing list with 3,135 yards.

Sullivan played his final NFL season with Cleveland in 1978.

Sullivan was a former teammate and close friend of Eagles' director of player relations Harold Carmichael.
