SOUTH FLORIDA vs. EAST CAROLINA ESPN'S TAKE |
A good start for South Florida with a quick turnover, and it did a good job of taking control of the game early with good field position. Throughout the game, East Carolina offered no pass protection with lots of breakdowns. The Pirates could never get any rhythm to their running game because they were always behind the sticks with lost-yardage plays. The second half was kind of a wash without South Florida QB Matt Grothe playing, as it looked like they really kept it close to the vest. I was happy for senior backup QB Jay Julmiste. He had a good attitude all year after getting beat out by a freshman to start the season, and he did a good job taking control of the game. East Carolina just couldn't take advantage of some scoring opportunities to get back in the game in the second half. Overall, it was a dominating physical performance by South Florida; they just dominated the line of scrimmage on both sides of the ball. -- Jim Donnan
